Growing Plum Tomatoes from Seed

Plum tomatoes are one of the most popular tomato varieties used in food production. They’re also ideal to grow at home and are delicious eaten raw or used in homemade tomato sauces, passatas, and pastes. Their firm flesh makes them more suitable for handling than softer varieties. 

To grow plum tomatoes from seed in the UK, sow them indoors between late February and early April. Use small pots filled with moisture-retaining compost. Maintain a warm environment, ideally 18-21°C, on a windowsill or in a propagator.

After the danger of frost has passed, transplant your seedlings to a sunny, sheltered spot in your garden. They will also grow well in a greenhouse or polytunnel. Ensure regular watering and weekly feeding to promote healthy growth.
