Growing Dwarf Bean Plants

Dwarf bean plants can be planted outdoors from late May to early June once the risk of frost has passed. You should plant them in a sunny, sheltered spot in well-drained soil.

They should be planted 6in (15cm) apart. They are best sown in double rows, with the rows 8in (20cm) apart, though you can sow in single rows 18in (45cm) apart if you prefer.

These plants are ideal for growing in containers if you’re limited on space, as they typically only grow to be around 20in (50cm) tall. If you are growing in a container, it should be at least 15in (40cm) wide and filled with either multi-purpose or loam-based compost. Your plants should be 6in (15cm) apart.

Make sure you water your plants regularly if grown in containers, as they can be prone to drying out.You can harvest the pods when they are 3in (7.5cm) long and once the beans start showing through the pod. Don't leave them too long, as they may become tough and bitter.
