Dare you grow the world’s hottest chilli? At over 2.2 million SHU’s (Scoville Heat Units) the Carolina Reaper is the Guinness World Record holder and not for the faint hearted! Despite its searing heat, it has a sweet, fruity flavour with chocolate cherry undertones.
All super-hot chillies are a challenge to grow from seed, they need to be sown early and require a fair bit of heat to get started. You’ll need a heated propagator and maintain the temperature at 28 to 30°C. The hotter the chilli the more time and heat it needs.
Warning: gloves must be worn when handling plants and fruit. DO NOT EAT the raw fruit.
