Squashkin Autumn Crown F1 brings together some of the best qualities of Crown Prince pumpkin and butternut squash in one fascinating winter squash. The semi-trailing plants produce generous crops of distinctive butternut-coloured, pumpkin-shaped fruits weighing up to 2kg, with rich deep-orange flesh and a uniquely sweet, melon-like aroma. Expect up to five fruits per plant, giving you plenty of delicious home-grown squash for roasting, soups, curries and warming autumn dishes. The mature fruits also store exceptionally well for enjoying long after harvest.

Sow indoors March-May, placing individual seeds on their edge around 1.5cm deep in pots at 15-20°C. Harden off from late May and plant outdoors in June after the risk of frost. Alternatively sow outdoors in May, two seeds per station, thinning to the strongest seedling. Allow approximately 90cm between plants. Keep well watered throughout the growing season and pinch out growing tips once 4-5 fruits have set. Harvest September-November when fruits are fully mature. Cure before storing in a cool, dry, frost-free place.
