Runner bean Moonlight seeds grow in a similar manner to other runner bean varieties, and are a great variety for vertical gardening.
Sow them in a sunny spot that has had well-rotted manure dug in prior to sowing. They will need a support to climb up as they grow; we recommend inwardly sloping 2.4m (8ft) bamboo canes. Water well, feed with liquid fertiliser once every fortnight, and mulch with organic matter. Harvest your beans when tender and young at 15-20cm (6-8in).
To find out how to grow runner beans in further depth, our comprehensive growing guide contains advice for every stage of growing.
Runner bean Moonlight is one of the first partially self-sowing varieties. As a result, they will crop better when weather conditions are unfavourable or for early and late sowings if pollinators aren’t common at the time.
Runner bean Moonlight pods remain stringless for a long period, with these plants producing smooth, long pods that can reach up to 25cm (10in) in length.
