Rose Cardinal De Richelieu (Shrub) Plants are a classic Gallica rose, admired for their richly coloured deep purple blooms and elegant garden presence. Dating back to 1847, this historic variety produces fully double flowers that reflex into almost spherical shapes, creating a distinctive display during the summer flowering season.
The dark green foliage provides the perfect backdrop for the velvety blooms, while the nearly thornless stems make this variety particularly useful for cutting and arranging indoors. Growing to around 120cm in height with a neat, upright habit, it is well suited to borders, mixed planting schemes and traditional rose gardens.
Lightly fragrant and highly ornamental, this dependable shrub rose combines timeless beauty with reliable garden performance, bringing elegant colour and character to outdoor spaces year after year.
Shrub Rose: Shrub Roses are usually the largest of the bush roses. They are great for the back of borders or dividing spaces in the garden with a mounding spreading shape. Usually their flowers are large and can be single, semi or double flowering. Their flowers are produced all the way along their stems giving a fantastic display for a long period and can be highly fragrant too.
These roses are supplied as 2 year old bare root plants with 2 to 3 breaks.
Planting advice: Plant bare root roses outdoors from October to March. Choose a sunny or partially shaded spot with well-drained soil. Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the roots comfortably, soak the roots in water before planting, and cover the graft union just below soil level. Water well after planting and mulch to retain moisture.
