International Kidney (Second Early Seed Potato) is a traditional heritage variety celebrated for its outstanding eating quality and recognised as the potato behind the famous 'Jersey Royal'. Producing long, white-skinned tubers with firm, cream flesh, it delivers a superb waxy texture and rich flavour, making it an excellent choice for boiling, steaming and creating delicious seasonal dishes. As a dependable second early, it crops from July through to August and can also be grown on as a maincrop if preferred.
Plant chitted tubers in early April, or slightly earlier in milder regions, into fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Suitable for kitchen gardens, raised beds and large containers, this reliable variety is easy to grow and produces generous harvests of premium-quality home-grown potatoes.
Second Early Seed Potatoes
These productive varieties provide your main summer harvest, lifting from early July through to August. Chitting before planting helps tubers establish quickly and encourages stronger, heavier crops. Stand the tubers with the blunt end upwards in an egg box until the shoots reach approximately 1.5-2.5cm (½-1in) before planting.
