Pea Onward is a popular and widely recommended maincrop variety, producing generous crops of large, well-filled pods packed with plump marrowfat peas. The peas have an excellent flavour for enjoying freshly picked from the garden, while the impressive size and quality of the pods also make this a variety suitable for exhibition. Make two or three sowings through spring and early summer to extend your harvest over a longer season.

Sow outdoors March-June in a prepared seedbed, using flat drills approximately 15cm wide and 5cm deep. Sow seeds in a zig-zag pattern around 5cm apart and space drills approximately 60cm apart. Cover with 5cm of fine soil, firm gently and keep moist. Seedlings normally appear in 10-18 days. Protect young plants from birds with twigs or netting and provide pea sticks or netting for support, particularly in exposed positions. Keep moist and weed free. Make two or three sowings for a longer cropping season. Harvest from late May-September, picking regularly for the best yields.
