Learn more about our beautiful African Marigold Crackerjack Seeds.
Sow your African marigold seeds indoors in the UK from February to April in trays with damp compost and keep them in a warm climate (around 18-21°C). They will sprout in two to three weeks. Move your young marigold Crackerjack plants to a cooler, bright spot, then plant outside after the frost risk ends, spacing them 10-12 inches apart in sunny, well-drained soil. You can sow straight outside in late spring too, but starting indoors gives bigger plants and earlier summer flowers.
These African marigolds thrive in full sun with low maintenance, attracting butterflies and repelling pests like nematodes when planted near vegetables. Pinch young plants for bushiness and stake tall ones in windy spots to avoid stem breakage.
Watch out for aphids, spider mites, or powdery mildew. These can be treated with water sprays or better air flow. Water your marigolds at soil level to keep foliage dry and make sure your plants are spaced 10-12 inches apart. Avoid overwatering to prevent rot, and too much fertiliser will lead to fewer flowers.
