Attractive enough for the back of the ornamental border with its violet flowers, Cobra is a tip-top variety we thoroughly recommend. Really heavy cropping, you will pick masses of dark green, round, stringless beans about 18cm/7in long of outstanding texture and taste. Crops continuously over a long period of time. It is as easy to grow as runner beans. Perfect for container growing. Height 180cm/70in.

Growing Tips

Sow indoors April to May singularly in pots of moist compost Harden off outside from May. Transplant to final position after risk of frost. Sow outdoors May to early July. Depth 2in/5cm deep. Spacing 8in/20cm apart. Train up canes or netting. Harvest June onwards until frosts. Tip: encourage flowers to set by misting with tepid water. Suitable for freezing.

Very Poor Germination - Again!

My two packets of Lisbon Spring Onions, bought last autumn, produced zero (yes absolutely zero) seedlings. Rather than complain I thought I might have stored them poorly - my fault not yours.

I bought a packet of different spring onions (different brand as well) and they came up beautifully well so I bought another of YOUR Lisbon.

Nearly the same results - very poor germination and it cannot have been my storage because they were planted within 36 hours of delivery.

I dislike the poor germination of current bean seeds when previously you would have to bash them with a hammer to stop them emerging.
