Want to know more about our edamame bean summer shell seeds? We answer your quetions here.
Edamame Summer Shell bean seeds are best sown from late spring to early summer, once the soil has warmed and all risk of frost has passed. These plants thrive in full sun and prefer well-drained, fertile soil that holds warmth. Sow seeds directly outdoors or start them under cover for an earlier crop. Space seeds about 5cm (2in) apart, with 45–60cm (18–24in) between rows to give plants plenty of room to grow.
Keep the soil evenly moist while young Edamame Summer Shell plants establish, and water regularly during flowering and pod development to encourage bumper harvests.
Edamame Summer Shell plants grow best in a warm, sunny spot in your garden. Pick a place with full sun, as they need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day and shelter them from strong winds.
They like fertile soil that holds moisture but drains well, such as raised beds or vegetable patches with a pH around 6.0–6.5. Large pots work too, but make sure you keep them watered in drier weather.
Harvest your Edamame Summer Shell beans when the pods are plump, bright green, and 2–3 inches (5–8cm) long. This happens about 70–90 days after sowing. Check plants every couple of days since the ideal harvest window is just 3–7 days, and pick before the pods turn yellow for maximum sweetness. Snap them off carefully by hand or scissors in the evening when the flavour peaks.
