Dwarf French Bean Yin Yang, also known as the Orca Bean, is an eye-catching heirloom variety producing distinctive black-and-white beans. Harvest the young pods to enjoy as fresh green beans, or leave them to mature fully and dry the beautifully patterned beans for storing and cooking later. The compact, productive plants are ideal for the kitchen garden and can also be grown successfully in large containers, making this unusual variety as practical as it is attractive.

Sow indoors April-May in individual pots or trays under protection. Harden plants off from late May and plant outdoors after the risk of frost. Alternatively sow outdoors from mid-April-June around 5cm deep in double rows approximately 45cm apart, thinning to around 30cm between plants. Keep well watered during dry periods. Harvest young pods regularly from August for fresh use, or allow pods to mature and dry fully on the plants if growing for the distinctive black-and-white dried beans.
