Chard Charlotte is an eye-catching variety producing vivid scarlet stems and contrasting green leaves that look every bit as good in the garden as they do on the plate. Extra resistance to bolting helps provide a dependable harvest, while regular picking supplies tender young leaves and crisp, colourful stems for salads, sautés and other dishes. Grow it in the kitchen garden, border or a large container for a crop that's both ornamental and delicious.

Sow outdoors April-July around 2.5cm deep, with rows approximately 40cm apart. Water well and thin seedlings as they develop, eventually allowing around 30cm between plants. Keep well watered during dry spells and harvest individual leaves and stems as required from July-November. Regular picking encourages further growth. Cloche protection can help extend harvesting into winter.
