Plant Calendula ‘Bull’s Eye’ seeds in early spring, after the danger of frost has passed. You can sow the seeds directly outside in a sunny spot with well-drained soil, placing them about 1/4 inch deep. If you want to get a head start, start the seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last expected frost. When seedlings are strong enough, transplant them carefully outside. For an extended flowering period, sow seeds again in midsummer to enjoy blooms in the autumn.
It is a good idea to deadhead your Calendula Bulls Eye plant to encourage more flowers throughout the year. Removing faded blooms encourages the plant to focus its energy on producing new flowers rather than seeds. It also keeps the plant looking tidier and improves air circulation, which can reduce disease.
Calendula Bulls Eye is a hardy annual, which means it grows, flowers, and sets seed all in one year and does not come back as the same plant the next year. However, it often self-seeds readily, so you may find new plants growing in your garden the following spring if you leave some flower heads to mature and they drop seeds.
