Beetroot Bulls Blood is a versatile heritage variety grown for both its richly coloured leaves and tasty roots. Pick the deep red young foliage as cut-and-come-again salad leaves, adding colour and a mild beetroot flavour to salads, or leave plants to mature and harvest the sweet, earthy roots for roasting, pickling and hearty home-grown dishes. The foliage develops an even deeper colour as autumn approaches.

Sow outdoors March-August in prepared soil or containers, lightly covering the seeds. For baby leaves, harvest when they reach around 7.5cm tall and allow plants to regrow for further pickings. For roots, thin seedlings to give them room to develop and harvest when they reach the preferred size. Later sowings provide useful young leaves into autumn.
