Beetroot Boltardy AGM Seeds is one of Britain’s best-loved beetroot varieties, valued for its reliability and excellent flavour. Producing deep red, high-quality roots, it performs well across a wide range of soils and can be sown earlier than most varieties with minimal risk of bolting. As a multigerm variety, each seed produces several plants, helping to maximise yields and ensure a steady supply of delicious, home-grown beetroot.

Beetroot Boltardy seeds can be sown earlier than most other varieties. Sow directly into prepared soil outdoors from March through to July, or get a head start by sowing under cover from late February. Their impressive bolt resistance means early sowings are far less likely to bolt prematurely, a common problem with other beetroot varieties. For a continuous supply of fresh roots throughout the season, sow in small batches every three to four weeks.
Roots are typically ready to harvest around 90 days after sowing and are best lifted when they reach golf-ball to tennis-ball size for the finest flavour.
When a beetroot seed is described as multigerm, it means that each seed cluster is actually made up of several seeds fused together. This means that when one seed cluster germinates, it will produce multiple seedlings rather than just one. As a result, you will need to thin out the seedlings once they emerge, leaving the strongest plant to grow on. The upside is that a single packet of Boltardy beetroot seeds goes a long way, offering excellent value and ensuring a generous supply of plants even if some seeds fail to germinate.
