Spring Planting Onion Set Collection
No kitchen garden is complete without onions and with this trio of top-quality varieties, you’ll have a reliable and flavoursome harvest to enjoy. Suitable for both experienced and new vegetable gardeners, this collection offers superb yield, flavour, and storage potential.
This collection includes 250g each of:
Setton A late maturing spring variety that delivers consistently high yields and excellent storage potential. Favoured by commercial growers, this reliable performer produces firm, round brown onions with strong skins and a narrow neck, helping to minimise waste and extend shelf life — often up to nine months in the right conditions. Setton is a great alternative to Hercules, offering even better yields and a neat, uniform finish ideal for long-term use in the kitchen or store.
Crusado One of the most promising spring planting onion varieties on the market today. Early maturing with high yields, a strong skin and excellent root system, it offers great drought tolerance and reliable storage. Crusado has proven popular with professional growers thanks to its resilience, quality during transport, and superior performance compared to Centurion. Earlier, stronger and higher yielding — it’s a superb all-rounder.
Sturon A reliable and consistent performer, the fairly large, straw coloured bulbs have a good flavour and will keep well.
Planting this collection of sets in spring means you’ll enjoy a fresh supply early in summer, just as stored onions are becoming scarce.
All of our bulbs are certified as disease and virus free.
Each 250g pack contains around 80 sets for planting — that’s approximately 240 sets in total across the three varieties.

Discover more about our Spring Planting Onion Set Collection
Most onion sets should be planted from mid-March to mid-April. There are onions that can be planted in autumn for overwintering, but the varieties Setton, Crusado and Sturon are all spring onion sets. Plant when the soil is not waterlogged or frozen.
To plant onion sets in spring, create rows roughly 20 - 30cm apart and around 3cm deep. Plant your onion sets around 15cm apart along the row and backfill. Make sure to plant with the blunt end down and the pointy end sticking upwards.
There is no need to soak onion sets before planting, though you can if you wish. Just make sure to water them in well.
