Enjoy a plentiful supply of fresh, lemon-scented leaves from this easy-to-grow perennial herb. The aromatic foliage adds a refreshing flavour to salads, fish sauces, mayonnaise, poultry and pork, as well as jellies, fruit salads and summer drinks. The leaves can also be dried for later use. Once established, the bushy plants return year after year and produce small nectar-rich flowers loved by bees and other pollinators.

SOW INDOORS March-June, thinly in trays of seed compost and cover lightly with fine compost. Keep moist; seedlings usually appear in 14-35 days. Thin as necessary, gradually harden off and transplant into the final growing position, spacing plants 45cm/18in apart. SOW OUTDOORS April-July, thinly in a prepared seed bed with rows 20cm/8in apart. Cover lightly, keep moist and thin seedlings to 10cm/4in apart. Transplant into the final position in autumn. Pick leaves as required.
