Blackcurrant Ebony Fruit Plant is a superb dessert blackcurrant for growers who put flavour first. Its exceptionally sweet, very large, juicy berries begin ripening from early July and are delicious eaten fresh, while their familiar blackcurrant character makes them equally useful for summer puddings, compotes, jams and preserves.

Ebony forms a compact, bushy plant around 120cm high, giving an excellent crop without taking over the kitchen garden. It shows good resistance to mildew and grows well in full sun or light partial shade. Plant in rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil and mulch annually to maintain steady growth and cropping.

Available in bare root and potted formats, giving you a choice to suit your planting plans.

Plant in rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil in full sun or light partial shade. Bare root plants are best planted during the dormant season; potted plants can be planted whenever soil conditions are suitable. Plant slightly deeper than the previous soil mark to encourage new shoots, mulch annually and water during dry periods. Prune in winter, removing some older wood at ground level to encourage productive young growth.
