Cosmos Fizzy Purple Flower Seeds

Cosmos seeds can be sown indoors or under cover in early spring, or directly outdoors towards the end of spring and into early summer. Plants will flower from June through September, often continuing into October.

• Sow indoors: February–April, 0.5cm deep in pots of seed compost. Keep moist and warm at 15–20°C. Transplant seedlings to individual pots when large enough to handle, then gradually harden off before planting out in late May–June.
• Sow outdoors: April–May, 0.5cm (¼in) deep in their flowering position. Thin seedlings to 30cm apart.

Most Cosmos are annuals, completing their life cycle in a single season. The most popular species, Cosmos bipinnatus (which is what Fizzy Purple is), is grown from seed each year and offers a wide range of colours, shapes and sizes. Frost will kill the plants, but they can sometimes self‑seed, meaning new seedlings may appear the following spring in the same spot.

Cosmos thrive in full sun. They prefer fresh, peat‑free compost that is free‑draining but not overly dry. For the best display, feed with a liquid fertiliser several times during the growing season to encourage abundant blooms.
