We would call this a red Little Gem, for it has all the qualities of that superb lettuce. The glossy maroon outer leaves protect sweet, yellow hearts, which have a superbly soft texture and flavour. Amaze also has good mildew resistance.

Sow outdoors March - July, at two-weekly intervals for successional crops, or under cloches from January, 1.5cm/half-inch deep. In rows 25-30cm/10-12in apart. Thin out to 20-25cm/8-10in. Keep well watered and weed free. Harvest May - October, April from January sowing.
