Shallot Jermor Bulbs are widely regarded as one of the finest shallots for flavour. A true French longue type bred in the southern Rhône Valley, this exceptional variety produces attractive copper-skinned bulbs with crisp flesh that is pink tinged with white. Renowned amongst exhibition growers and kitchen gardeners alike, it is prized for its outstanding sweet taste and excellent storage qualities.
Sweeter and milder than onions, shallots are an essential ingredient for anyone passionate about home-grown flavour. Rich in vitamins A, B, C and E, they are invaluable in sauces, dressings, salads and a wide range of cooked dishes, adding a delicate depth of flavour that has made them a favourite of professional chefs and home cooks alike.
Plant the mature bulbs outdoors from September to November in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny position. As growth develops, each bulb multiplies to form clusters of up to seven high-quality shallots, creating a productive and rewarding crop with minimal maintenance.
Harvest from June to July once the foliage begins to yellow and die back naturally. Lift the bulbs carefully and allow them to dry thoroughly before storing. Their excellent keeping qualities ensure a reliable supply of home-grown produce long after harvest.
All bulbs are certified disease and virus free and have been selected for their quality, reliability and performance. Supplied as individual mature bulbs ready for autumn planting.
