Crimson Crush tomato is not quite a beefsteak variety, but it produces large, meaty fruits. They are indeterminate plants, meaning that they will grow upwards and need some support during the growing season.
Crimson Crush tomato seeds should be sown in spring, around 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Grow them in rich, well-drained soil or in large pots. As they grow, provide them with support and regularly remove the side shoots or suckers to encourage strong, balanced growth. For more information, see our guide on how to grow tomatoes from seed.
Gardeners are advised to bury up to 2/3 of a plant’s stem when planting out tomatoes. This is because tomatoes will create roots from their stem, and the resulting plant will be stronger, stouter and with a bigger root system. This allows the plant to be productive and strong enough to bear lots of fruit.
