Kalettes Mixed F1 Plants

SKU: 55089

Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera

This British-Bred cross between Brussels sprout and kale produces unusual, open frilly buttons which are much more than just a novelty. The flavour is more akin to spring greens than to either parent while the plants are extremely winter-hardy.

It’s still not too late to be planting some later cropping summer vegetable plants – ideal if you didn’t sow quite enough, or are just looking to top up existing plantings. All the plants are grown in their own cell of compost and will be despatched ready for immediate planting.

You will be impressed by their quality and the speed with which they establish and grow after transplanting, giving you the satisfaction of home grown vegetables. Top quality varieties, professionally grown, delivered at just the right time and in perfect condition for growing on in your garden, allotment or greenhouse, with complete, easy-to-understand growing hints – just what you would expect from D.T. Brown.

Kalettes Mixed F1 Plants

Love these plants. They did get cabbage white caterpillars, but weathered them well with assistance. Even on my relatively unfertile clay they produced a good crop - better than brussels sprouts. Seem less prone to being blown over too - could get away with moderate support. Still eating them in Feb. Pigeon ate all the tops in Jan - so I'll have to watch that next year. I've cooked them with sweated onion and garlic (or lemon) plus a little fairly concentrated veg stock, sliced in half and cooked gently - the leaves absorb the stock and the centres keep a little bite to them. Utterly delicious.
