READY TO GROW - give your garden instant colour!

Lightweight, highly absorbent flakes of a natural mineral heated to super high temperatures. When added to the growing media it will help to promote faster growing and healthier plants by improving good air balance, increasing water retention and helping to maintain an even temperature.
When added to compost and other growing media, Vermiculite holds and makes the available nutrients readily available for plants due to ‘cation exchange’ properties.
Vermiculite can be used for:
- Alone as a seed starting medium or mixed with compost at 50/50 rate.
- For seed germinations, pricking out, potting-on and plants in containers or tubs.
- Used for pricking out or potting on.
- In larger pots and containers to decrease the weight and improve water retention.

Vermiculite is a naturally occurring mineral formed from hydrated magnesium aluminium silicate. When heated, it expands into lightweight, absorbent granules that improve soil aeration and moisture retention. It is chemically inert and sterile and does not degrade over time, making it an excellent choice for seed sowing, potting mixes, and soil conditioning.
No, vermiculite is entirely non-toxic and safe to handle. It does not contain harmful chemicals and is often used in horticulture for seed starting and soil improvement. To minimise dust when handling it, it’s best to use it in a well-ventilated area and wear gloves if you have sensitive skin.
Vermiculite is widely used in gardening to improve soil aeration, water retention, and drainage. It is commonly mixed with compost for seed starting, helping to create a light, moisture-retentive growing medium. It also reduces soil compaction, making it easier for roots to spread.
In potting mixes, vermiculite for plants helps prevent water from draining too quickly while keeping the soil well-aerated. It can also be sprinkled over sown seeds to maintain moisture during germination. Unlike perlite, which primarily improves drainage, vermiculite holds more water, making it particularly useful for moisture-loving plants and young seedlings.
