Russian Tarragon is a vigorous, hardy herb that's much easier to grow from seed than French tarragon. Its fresh leaves have a mild aniseed flavour that works beautifully with chicken and fish, stirred into sauces or chopped into homemade salad dressings. Pick the aromatic leaves as required through the growing season for a ready supply of fresh flavour straight from the garden.

Sow indoors March-April in trays of seed compost, around 1.5cm deep. Harden off during May and plant outdoors approximately 30cm apart. Alternatively sow outdoors April-May, thinly and directly into the growing position, around 1.5cm deep, thinning seedlings to 30cm apart when large enough to handle. Keep moist while establishing and pick fresh leaves as required.
