Parsnip Javelin F1 is a British-bred variety producing smooth, well-shaped roots with an excellent sweet flavour. Its good resistance to canker makes it a reliable choice for the kitchen garden, while the uniform roots are also well regarded for exhibition. Leave them in the ground through cold weather to develop even more sweetness, then roast, mash or add them to soups and stews.

Sow outdoors from late February-April in well-prepared soil, around 1.5cm deep in rows 45cm apart. Delay sowing if the ground is very cold or waterlogged. Germination can be slow. Thin seedlings gradually to around 23cm apart, hoe regularly and keep the soil moist during dry periods. Leave mature roots in the ground until required, as frost helps improve their flavour. Harvest August-March.
