Grow reliable crops of large red onions with this groundbreaking, downy mildew-resistant variety. Redlander F1 produces excellent yields of firm, globe-shaped bulbs with attractive red skins and a mild, mellow flavour. Deliciously crisp when freshly harvested, the onions are ideal for summer salads, sandwiches, roasting and everyday cooking. Properly dried bulbs store exceptionally well in cool, dark and dry conditions.

SOW INDOORS January-April, thinly in trays of seed compost, 0.5cm/quarter-in deep. Harden off during April-May, then plant outside 20cm/8in apart in rows 30cm/12in apart. SOW OUTDOORS March, thinly in prepared rows, 1.5cm/half-in deep. Thin seedlings gradually to 20cm/8in apart. Keep plants well watered and weed free. Harvest when the foliage begins to yellow and fall over. Dry bulbs thoroughly before storing in cool, dark and dry conditions.
