Growing mixed daffodil bulbs is typically a simple process, as daffodils are low-maintenance flowers. They should be planted between September and November, ready for the springtime.
Growing these bulbs is very versatile, as they can be grown in a range of places (such as beds, borders and containers), and in fully sunny or partially shaded areas. You should plant these bulbs in free-draining soil with the pointed side facing upwards, with a good amount of space to grow. You should plant your bulbs 10cm/4in deep, then space them around twice the length of a bulb’s diameter apart with a small amount of fertiliser.
You should water your bulbs if the weather is particularly dry and frequently water them in spring. These bulbs will begin to bloom in April, though this may vary slightly depending on each variety.
Mixed daffodil bulbs provide your garden with a great amount of diversity, creating an array of unique colours that will make it a vibrant space. In addition, mixed bulbs will prolong the bloom period, with these varieties blooming at different times.
You should deadhead daffodils six weeks after flowering when the blooms become shrivelled and the bulbous seed head begins to grow. The stem can be cut to the bottom of the stalk, though cutting just behind the head is preferable as this keeps the stem and leaves intact for photosynthesis.
Deadheading your daffodils prevents them from using energy-producing seeds and instead returns it towards the bulb for next season’s growth.
