Long Harvest Garlic Bulb Collection is supplied as 6 bulbs (2 of each variety) and offers an excellent-value selection designed to extend your garlic harvest from late May through to August.
This super saver collection brings together three outstanding varieties to provide a continuous harvest window and a saving of £5.70. It includes Garlic Extra Early Wight (Hardneck), Garlic Rhapsody Wight (Softneck), and Garlic Carcassonne Wight (Hardneck), each chosen for performance, flavour and reliability in UK growing conditions.
Extra Early Wight is the earliest garlic to harvest, producing clean white bulbs that can be lifted from late May and offering a mild, delicious flavour with good storage potential. Rhapsody Wight is an early purple softneck variety with bright bulbs that reveal deep purple streaking and a fresh, zingy flavour, ideal for a wide range of dishes and also suitable for harvesting green. Carcassonne Wight is a proven Isle of Wight trial variety, producing vigorous plants with pink cloves and a rich, fragrant flavour that carries well in cooking.
All varieties are best planted in autumn for optimal results and are carefully sourced in partnership with The Garlic Farm on the Isle of Wight, ensuring high-quality, expert-grown stock. Suitable for beds, allotments and containers, each bulb is certified disease and virus free for complete confidence.
Garlic Types
Hardneck Garlic (Allium sativum var. ophioscorodon) generally more hardy than softneck varieties (they are the best choice for northern gardeners) and tend to be larger but with fewer cloves per bulb. They produce scapes in early summer – a strong, single flower stalk that should be removed and used in a range of culinary dishes.
Softneck Garlic (Allium sativum var. sativum) often produce smaller cloves per head but are quicker to mature and will store for longer than hardneck varieties. Softneck types prefer warmer conditions and are generally milder in flavour, with soft stems ideal for plaiting.
