A classic cottage garden favourite, Chater's Double Mixed produces stately spires packed with fluffy, peony-like double flowers. Its rich mixture includes crimson, pink, rose, salmon, scarlet, yellow and white, creating an impressive display at the back of a sunny or partially shaded border. The tall stems also make dramatic cut flowers, and established plants may self-seed for future displays.

Sow indoors from March to May in pots or trays of seed compost. Alternatively, sow outdoors from May to July in a prepared seedbed, 1.5cm deep. Keep moist and thin seedlings to 7.5cm apart. Transplant to the final flowering position in September or October, or in April the following year, spacing plants 60cm apart. Keep well watered and provide support in exposed positions. Flowers are produced from July to October the following year.
