Grow a rich mixture of beautifully formed dahlias with tight, fully double, honeycomb-like flower heads. The tall plants produce an abundance of colourful blooms on long, strong stems, making them superb for cutting and arranging. Plant them in sunny borders or dedicate a row in the kitchen garden to provide armfuls of flowers from midsummer until the first autumn frosts.

SOW INDOORS January-April, thinly 0.5cm/quarter-in deep in trays of compost. Keep at 15-20°C/60-68°F and transplant at the 2-4 leaf stage into individual 7.5cm/3in pots. Grow on in cooler conditions, harden off from late May and plant out from June, spacing plants 30cm/12in apart. Keep moist, support plants in exposed positions and remove faded flowers regularly to prolong flowering.
