Courgette Black Forest F1 is an unusual climbing variety that can be trained up a sturdy trellis or fence, making excellent use of vertical space. The vigorous plants produce abundant crops of dark green courgettes with a tender texture and fresh flavour. Pick the fruits regularly at around 10-15cm long for grilling, roasting, stir-fries, salads and plenty of other home-grown summer dishes.

Sow indoors March-mid May, around 1.5cm deep at 20-25°C. Harden off and plant outdoors after the risk of frost, allowing around 90cm between plants. Alternatively sow outdoors May-June, placing seeds on their edge to help reduce the risk of rotting. Provide a sturdy trellis or other support and tie in the stems as they grow. Keep plants well watered and pick regularly to encourage continuous cropping. Harvest July-October when fruits are around 10-15cm long. Discard any unusually bitter-tasting fruits.
