Deep green leaves are carried on distinctive stems that graduate from vibrant pink to white, retaining much of their colour when cooked. Harvest the sweet, tender young leaves for salads or allow them to mature for cooking in stir-fries, soups and other home-grown dishes. The productive plants are ideal for allotments, borders, raised beds and patio containers.

SOW OUTDOORS April-July, 2.5cm/1in deep in rows 40cm/16in apart. Thin seedlings to approximately 15cm/6in apart for regular harvesting of young leaves or allow more space for mature plants. Keep well watered during dry weather. Harvest the outer stems and leaves as required, leaving the centre intact to produce further growth. Protect with cloches to extend the harvest into colder weather.
