The cabbage that thinks it's an iceberg lettuce! Honestly, when you shred the head into a salad, you will be amazed at the lovely sweet taste and crisp texture of this remarkable variety. Capable of producing ballheads up to 2kg each, it is also great for coleslaw or steaming and serving hot, as with other cabbages.

Characteristics & growing conditions

Position: Dappled Shade, Full Sun, and Partial Shade
For indoor sowing
When February to April.
Where In trays of seed compost.
How Sow thinly, cover with a fine layer of compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover with glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at approx. 13°C. Seedlings appear 7-21 days.
Care Remove cover when seedlings appear. When large enough transplant 5cm apart in trays. Stand outside for a few days to acclimatise. Transplant to final position 45cm apart. Firm in well.
Harvest May to August.
For outdoor sowing
When March to July.
Where In a prepared seed bed.
How Sow thinly in rows 23cm apart. Cover with 1.5cm of fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist.
Care When 5-6 leaves have formed transplant to final position 45cm apart. Firm in well. Keep moist and weed free. Protect early sowings with cloches.
Harvest June to October.
