Beetroot Monorubra produces long, cylindrical roots that are particularly useful in the kitchen, giving plenty of neat, even slices with very little waste. The smooth roots have fine flavour and attractive ring-free flesh, making them excellent for pickling as well as roasting, salads and everyday vegetable dishes. Sow regularly for a succession of tender home-grown roots through summer and into autumn.

Sow outdoors from mid-March-July, thinly and directly into the growing position around 2.5cm deep. Space rows approximately 30cm apart and thin seedlings to around 10cm apart. Repeat sowings at regular intervals for a succession of roots. Keep plants well watered and weed free. Harvest June-October. For winter storage, lift mature roots in autumn, twist off the leaves and store in dry sand or soil in a frost-free place.
