Add an unusual home-grown ingredient to your summer dishes with this productive white aubergine. Compact, bushy plants produce good crops of slender, creamy-white fruits with thin skins and firm, mild-flavoured flesh. White Knight F1 shows good disease resistance and is particularly well suited to greenhouse borders, grow bags and large patio containers in a sunny, sheltered position.

SOW INDOORS January-April, thinly in pots or trays of compost, 0.5cm/quarter-in deep. Keep at 20-25°C/68-77°F, reducing the temperature to approximately 15°C/60°F after germination. Transplant seedlings into individual pots at the 2-4 leaf stage. Harden off from early June, then plant into large patio pots, greenhouse borders or grow bags, spacing plants 45cm/18in apart. Water consistently and feed regularly once the first fruits begin to form.
