Discover more about our delicious Sungold Tomato Seeds.
Sow your tomato Sungold seeds indoors from February to April in moist seed compost at 15-24°C and cover lightly. Germination should occur in 7-14 days, then start transplanting your seedlings to individual pots.
Harden off your seedlings and plant outdoors after the last frost in May. Space 45-60cm apart in sunny, well-drained soil, burying stems deeply for strong roots. Support your cordon plants with stakes, pinch outside shoots weekly and feed with high-potassium fertiliser once fruits form.
Harvest Sungold tomatoes from early July to October in the UK, when fruits reach full golden-orange colour, swell, and feel slightly soft to the touch. They typically ripen 60-70 days after transplanting outdoors in late May. Pick clusters of fruit daily to prevent splitting and enjoy their peak sweetness fresh from the vine.
Yes, you can! Sungold tomatoes’ intense flavour makes them versatile for preserving or cooking, ensuring no tasty fruit goes to waste. You can freeze them whole or halved by first washing and drying them, then spreading them out on a tray to freeze before transferring to airtight bags.
Another option is to make fresh tomato sauce or chutney with your Sungold tomatoes and preserve the vibrant flavour in sterilised jars, so you can enjoy the taste year-round. You can also slow-roast or dehydrate the tomatoes to intensify their sweetness, making them a great addition to salads, pasta dishes, or as snacks.
