Picasso F1 is a synergistic sweetcorn with striking red-streaked stems and husks, producing tender, juicy bi-coloured cobs approximately 20cm/8in long. Unlike many sweetcorn types, it can be grown alongside other varieties without affecting eating quality, making it ideal where space is limited. Enjoy the freshly picked cobs lightly cooked, grilled or even eaten raw.

SOW INDOORS March-May, individually in pots of compost, 1.5cm/half-in deep. Keep at 15-20°C/60-68°F. Harden off from late May and plant outside from June in compact blocks rather than rows to aid pollination. SOW OUTDOORS May, two seeds per station, 1.5-2.5cm/half-1in deep. Space stations 40cm/16in apart and thin to the strongest seedling when large enough to handle. Keep plants well watered and weed free. If space is limited, two plants can be allowed to grow at each station. Harvest when the tassels have turned brown and the kernels release a milky liquid when pressed.
