Make a spectacular statement with one of the biggest sunflowers you can grow. Titan produces enormous golden-yellow flower heads measuring up to 60cm/2ft across on towering, sturdy stems. The impressive plants are great fun for children to grow and create a dramatic feature at the back of a sunny border. Leave the mature seed heads in place during autumn to provide a valuable feast for garden birds.

SOW OUTDOORS March-May, 1.5cm/half-in deep directly where the plants are to flower. Sow two seeds together every 45cm/18in and remove the weaker seedling after germination. SOW INDOORS March-May, individually in small pots of compost, 1.5cm/half-in deep. Harden off and plant out after the risk of frost, spacing plants 45cm/18in apart. Water well until established and provide strong stakes before the plants become tall and top-heavy.
