Shelling Bean Spagna Bianco is a vigorous climbing Mediterranean variety producing large white beans with a satisfyingly creamy, substantial texture. Harvest the young pods before the seeds swell to enjoy them as green beans, or allow the beans to develop for shelling and use them in hearty soups, stews and rustic bean dishes. A wonderfully versatile crop for anyone who loves growing ingredients with real kitchen value.

Sow indoors April-May in individual pots, 5cm deep, and maintain gentle warmth. Harden off and plant out from late May after the risk of frost. Alternatively sow outdoors May-July, 5cm deep. Space plants around 20cm apart and provide tall canes, a bean frame or netting for support. Pick young pods regularly for use as green beans, or leave pods to mature and shell the large white beans for cooking. Harvest July-September.
