First established in 1930, Arran Pilot seed potatoes have remained staunchly popular for almost a century. This fantastic heritage seed potato has been carefully grown by dedicated farmers and is now a reliable part of the D.T. Brown Seeds range.
Arran Pilots are one of Britain’s favourite first early seed potatoes, celebrated for their exceptional taste and versatility. They produce high yields of medium-sized, white-skinned oval tubers with shallow eyes and deliciously creamy flesh. With its superb taste and texture, this top-class variety is a great all-rounder, suitable for everything from boiling to chipping.
Arran Pilot seed potatoes are fast-growing early croppers, ready to harvest from June to July. They also boast impressive drought tolerance and scab resistance, making them a great choice for both novice and seasoned growers.
To maximise your Arran Pilot potato harvest, we recommend chitting prior to planting out. This process encourages seed potatoes to sprout, allowing them to establish more readily and leading to bigger crops. Simply place them in an old egg box, blunt end up, until the shoots are approximately 1½ to 2½ cm (½ to 1 in) long.

Arran Pilot potatoes are known for their versatility. As a result, they're particularly good for chipping and boiling but are also suitable for baking, roasting, and mashing.
Arran Pilot potatoes should be planted around late March as a first early variety of potatoes.
Arran Pilot potatoes should be ready for harvest in June or July as they are first earlies. Their plants will be ready for harvest when their tubers are the size of a hen's eggs. This will be around the time that their flowers begin to open.
