Want to learn more about our Kelvedon Wonder pea seeds? We answer your questions here.
Kelvedon Wonder peas seeds can be sown at different times of year, depending on when you want to harvest. The main sowing season runs from March through to June, allowing you to make successive sowings every few weeks for a continuous supply of fresh peas throughout summer. As a hardy first early variety, Kelvedon Wonder is also excellent for autumn sowing. You can plant seeds in October or November under cloches or in a cold frame, and they'll overwinter successfully to give you a crop the following spring.
Kelvedon Wonder peas are ready to harvest when the pods feel nicely plump. You should be able to see and feel the round peas bulging gently through the pod. Check your plants every couple of days once they start podding, as peas can mature quickly in warm weather. Regular picking is important because it encourages the plants to keep producing more flowers and pods, extending your harvest over several weeks.
Yes, Kelvedon Wonder peas are excellent for container growing thanks to their compact height. Choose a pot at least 30cm deep with good drainage holes, and fill with quality multipurpose compost. Sow your Kelvedon Wonder pea seeds directly into the container from March onwards, spacing them 5-7cm apart. Position in a sunny, sheltered spot and water regularly. Add a few canes or twiggy sticks for support, and you'll enjoy fresh peas even without a garden.
