Dwarf Borlotto Bean Lingua di Fuoco Nano is a colourful Italian variety producing green pods dramatically splashed with red. Pick them young and tender to enjoy as fresh French beans, or leave the pods to mature and harvest the beautifully marked beans for soups, stews and traditional Italian dishes. The compact plants crop well through summer and are ideal where space is limited.

Sow indoors April-May in individual pots, two seeds per pot, around 5cm deep. Harden off and plant outdoors from late May after the risk of frost, spacing around 25cm apart in rows 60cm apart. Alternatively sow outdoors May-June, two seeds per position, around 5cm deep. Keep plants well watered and weed free, and provide twiggy support in exposed sites if necessary. Pick young pods regularly for fresh beans or leave pods to mature and dry for shelling. Harvest June-October.
