Want to learn more about our Oregon Sugar Pod mangetout seeds? We answer your questions here.
You can sow Oregon Sugar Pod mangetout seeds outdoors in the UK from early March to June, once the soil warms up and the chance of frost has passed. Start earlier indoors or under cloches from February for faster crops. Succession sow every 2-3 weeks for continuous summer harvests.
Yes, Oregon Sugar Pod mangetout peas typically need support as they grow tall and reach about 1 metre in height. Use bamboo canes, netting, or pea frames from when plants reach 10cm to prevent lodging under heavy crops and in windy conditions. Support will keep the pods clean and accessible for picking while improving airflow to reduce disease risk.
Oregon Sugar Pod mangetout is ready to harvest approximately 12-13 weeks after sowing. Pick the pods when they're young and tender, ideally around 8cm long, just as the tiny peas inside are beginning to form but before they become swollen. At this stage, the pods are completely stringless, crisp, and sweet. Regular picking encourages the plants to produce more pods, potentially giving you multiple harvests throughout the season.
