Want to learn more about our Pea Meteor seeds? We answer your questions here.
Pea Meteor First Early seeds can be sown from late February under cloches, or you can wait until March for direct outdoor sowing when the soil has warmed slightly. As a hardy first early variety, Meteor tolerates cooler conditions well, making it ideal for getting your season off to an early start. For continuous harvests, sow small batches every two to three weeks through spring for fresh peas well into early summer.
No, Pea Meteor is a dwarf variety growing to just 45cm tall, so it doesn't require the tall supports or netting that climbing peas need. The plants are naturally sturdy and self-supporting, making them wonderfully low-maintenance. Some growers add short pea sticks or twiggy branches for extra support in windy spots, but it's not essential.
Pea Meteor typically takes around 11-12 weeks from sowing to harvest. The pods are ready to harvest when they feel plump. Gently squeeze them to check that the peas inside have swelled nicely. For the sweetest flavour, pick them promptly once they've reached full size. Regular picking encourages the plants to produce more pods, extending your harvest over several weeks.
