What could be more appealing than delightful wild strawberries? Few of us will have tasted the lovely wild form of this favourite summer fruit, so now is the chance to give yourself a treat. The berries are superb, but also try adding some of the bruised leaves to a meat stock for an added dimension.

Sow Indoors : March to June in pots or trays of seed compost. Sow thinly and gently firm seeds into the surface. Cover with glass, polythene or a propagator lid, do not cover with compost. Keep sowings at a temperature of approximately 20°C. Seedlings will appear at around 14-28 days. Remove cover when seedlings appear. Transplant to individual pots. Grow on at approx. 15°C. Harden off and transplant to minimum 30cm containers or transplant to a sunny growing position, 30cm apart. Keep plants well watered.

Harvest : June to November.
