Sow outdoors in March-May, thinly, in a seedbed or trays of seed compost (1.5cm/half-inch deep). Keep soil moist. Transplant at 4 leaf stage to final growing position July-August. Plant firmly and water well until established. Spacing of 60cm/2ft each way between plants. Pick regularly to encourage further cropping and to taste the spears and leaves at their best. Harvest February-May. Suitable for freezing
