Enjoy delicious new potatoes from your garden with second cropping spuds.
Many gardeners are choosing our potato kits to save space on their plot or because they simply don’t have the room for a potato bed. You’ll be cropping from October – November with these 3 proven varieties.
They’re perfect for beginners too – everything you need is included and each kit contains 3 heavy duty, reusable growing sacks (worth £12.95) with a 40ltr capacity and 4.5kg of top quality seed potatoes, 1.5kg each of:
Maris Peer-The traditional variety is ideal for use hot or cold, and perfect for boiling, chips and wedges. Maris Peer holds its colour and structure well in cooking. Firm, creamy flesh under a smooth yellow egg-shaped skin makes them one of our tastiest potatoes
Gemson (Substitute for Carlingford) - Crossed with Maris Peer, this variety has a delicious flavour, producing generous yields of small, oval tubers with smooth white skin and firm, creamy flesh. Highly recommended for steaming and boiling and serving as a new potato, hot or cold, with salads and we’ve also found it roasts well too. Exceptional resistance to powdery scab and blackleg.
Charlotte-The French-bred, highly popular potato is the salad variety of choice of many discerning chefs. The smooth skinned potato tubers have a light yellow flesh which has a wonderful flavour and delightfully waxy texture. A further advantage of potato Charlotte is its resistance to both blight and scab.
These specially selected tubers are put into temperature controlled storage to keep them dormant to the middle of summer so that they can be planted in late July and August to give you a crop which is later. They are ready in two months from planting but crops can then be left in the soil until you want them - they can even be used for fresh, home-grown spuds for Christmas lunch!
