Introduced in 1900 and still as good as ever, this superb variety requires virtually no support and can even be grown under cloches for extra early crops of succulent peas. They seem to keep their sweetness and tenderness even when they become older.
Sow outdoors March to June, in trenches 6in/15cm wide Depth 2in/5cm Trenches 3ft/90cm apart. Support: using sticks or canes. Harvest May to August. Harvest regularly to encourage further crops. For bumper crops, dig in plenty of well rotted compost before sowing or feed with a general purpose fertilizer. Water well and keep weed free. Suitable for freezing.
